Catholic Women's League

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada (CWL) is a national organization rooted in gospel values calling its members to holiness through service to the people of
God.

The CWL was organized nationally on June 17, 1920 and granted federal incorporation on December 12, 1923. The CWL at St. Martin of Tours parish was born October 7, 1976.

Over the past 45 years, our CWL members have volunteered over 25,000 hours in community outreach and parish activities and have donated approximately $100,000 to charitable organization. Some of the noteworthy projects of St. Martin’s CWL have been the contribution of financial aid to the education of seminarians, hosting the annual Public Speaking Contest for our parish elementary schools, the purchase of articles for worship at the parish and participation in Citizenship Court to welcome new immigrants to Canada.

In addition to serving the parish as altar guild, and choir members, CWL members’ minister to the sick, assist at funeral services and serve as Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers. Some members also volunteer at Birthright and Mississauga Right to Life. In partnership with the Knights of Columbus, the CWL was instrumental in founding Vita Centre, a home for pregnant and parenting teens.

For 30 years, a group of dedicated quilters met weekly to create beautiful quilts to raise funds for our charitable works.

The privileges of membership include belonging to a national organization of Catholic women, spiritual growth, and the joys of service and the formation of life-long friendships.

We invite every woman 16 and older of St. Martin of Tours to join the CWL.
