The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity May 31, 2026

Bishop Fulton Sheen is the modern American theologian, who tried to explain Trinity in a simple way inviting us to experience Triune God in our life. He spoke of the nature of God as being one, like that of water. Water’s chemical symbol is H2O. That is its nature. Is it possible to have various relationships within that one nature, he asks? Yes, it is possible. The nature of water can appear like liquid, steam or ice. The nature of all three is identical but their form is different. Just as in the sun there is substance, light and heat, yet only one sun. Bishop Sheen writes: Our belief in God as Trinity is an invitation to experience-to experience God as same nature but as the Father, the Son and the Spirit, three different persons.

This is the invitation of the feast of Trinity today: to live with Trinity, to experience Him as the Living God-as one who creates us, seeks us out, and enlightens us. We were created to participate in and share the life of Holy Trinity. It is our spiritual DNA. “Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness’” (Gen. 1:26). Trinitarian life is the pattern from which we were created. It is both the basis and destination of our lives. The Trinitarian life is a choreography of love; three equal persons, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, each one dwelling in the other by virtue of an unceasing movement of mutual love. Our lives, marriages, families, schools, workplaces, parishes, are to become images, icons, of the Triunity of God. We are invited to join this dance of mutuality and love.

St. Irenaeus of Smyrna says: ““My God is so high you can’t get over Him. He’s so low you can’t get under Him. He’s so wide you can’t get around Him. The glory of God is man fully alive,” Stop thinking about God. Live life, share the love, reveal the beauty.
