On this sombre day, we commemorate the death and crucifixion of Jesus. Christ made the ultimate sacrifice to save us from our sins.

“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo presided at the Good Friday service at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica at 3 p.m., the hour at which Jesus “breathed his last.”

The Veneration of the Cross is a central part of today’s liturgy. Holy Communion is distributed towards the end of the Good Friday service using hosts consecrated on Holy Thursday, connecting us from the Last Supper to the Our Lord’s ultimate, loving sacrifice.

Lord Jesus Christ, on this Good Friday, we humbly come before you, mindful of the immeasurable sacrifice made for us. Forgive us our sins and grant us the grace to turn away from all that separates us from your love.
