Epiphany-A True God Experience

On this second Sunday after Christmas, many of us have the thought, Christmas is over – let’s pack everything up. Yes, we do a good job at cleaning up after Christmas, but we run the risk of removing it from our lives. How do we keep the spirit of Christmas throughout our lives? The answer is Epiphany, a God experience. Take a picture/snapshot of Christmas and keep it along with our life. To take a picture of Christmas, we must go to Bethlehem. The truth we celebrate during Christmas is that God has journeyed from the heavens above, all the way down to us. Epiphany is all about our human journey toward God.

“Where is the child who has been born King of the Jews?” That question is our guiding star. It illuminates the night skies of our lives. It pushes back the darkness and points the way. The question doesn’t seek information. It creates space for God’s self-revelation. The star stopped over the house where the child was. The wise men entered and saw the child with Mary his mother. There is only one God but there are many houses in which God makes himself present. They are houses of mercy and forgiveness/second chances/healing/beauty/wisdom and guidance. There are as many houses of God’s presence as there are stars in the sky.

Don’t settle for what the wise men saw. Go look for yourself. “Where is the child who has been born King of the Jews?” As the question. Follow the star. Open your life. Give God the opportunity to say, “Look! Right here, right here in the middle of your life, here is the child, our King and Savior.” Take a picture and keep it along with you. That’s our Epiphany.
